Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, stressed the importance of supporting the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) in carrying out its duties to ensure the success of the elections.

Al-Sudani’s statement took place during his meeting on Monday with the Parliament Speaker, Mohammed Al-Halbousi, the head and members of the IHEC, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The meeting reviewed the preparations and procedures taken by the IHEC to hold the elections for provincial councils.

The attendees emphasized that the provincial councils’ elections will be held on December 18 and the necessity of providing full support for this national right.

The Iraqi Prime Minister indicated that strict directives have been issued to all ministries and state institutions to support the work of the IHEC to come up with results that reflect the will of the Iraqi people.

Al-Halbousi noted that the legislative authority cooperates with the executive authority to help the IHEC complete its work.

Additionally, the head and members of the IHEC confirmed that the elections for provincial councils will be held according to the drawn-up plan and the specified timetable, with great transparency.
