Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, and the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, stressed on Wednesday Iraq’s pivotal role in the region, according to a press statement issued by the Prime Minister’s press office.

The statement mentioned that Al-Sudani received Abdollahian in his residence in the Iranian capital, Tehran, where they discussed ways to develop the bilateral relations, and confirmed Iraq’s pivotal role in the region in addition to the Iraqi efforts to strengthen security and enhance regional stability.

The statement added that the meeting addressed ways to strengthen economic and trade relations, within the framework of constructive cooperation and partnership between the two neighboring countries, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

The Prime Minister’s press office revealed on Tuesday that Al-Sudani and his accompanying delegation discussed nine different issues with the Iranian side during their visit to Tehran.

The Prime Minister’s press office indicated that the Iranian President, Ebrahim Raisi, headed the Iranian side in the talks held with the Iraqi delegation where officials from both sides discussed security coordination, trade exchange, cooperation in the field of energy and investment, organizing tourism and mutual religious visits, as well as the water issues and climate change challenges and its economic effects.

The Iraqi Prime Minister and his accompanying high-level delegation arrived in Tehran International Airport on Tuesday morning in an official visit to Iran in response to an invitation Al-Sudani received a few days ago by the Iranian Ambassador to Iraq.
