Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, offered condolences for the death of the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, in a visit to Kuwait on Sunday.

During his visit to neighboring Kuwait, Al-Sudani was accompanied by a governmental and parliamentary delegation, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).

The Iraqi Prime Minister offered his sincere condolences and sympathy to Kuwaiti officials and people for the death of Kuwait’s Emir.

Al-Sudani also wished Kuwait prosperity and stability under the reign of Prince Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah.

The Emir of Kuwait, 86, had been transferred to a hospital in early December to receive treatment and undergo medical examinations following an emergency health issue.

In November 2021, the Emir of Kuwait issued an order requesting the assistance of Kuwait’s Crown Prince to exercise some of his constitutional powers on a temporary basis.

Under Kuwait’s constitution, the crown prince automatically becomes emir but assumes power only after taking an oath in parliament.

The new emir has up to a year to name an heir.
