 Iraqi President asserts importance of Iraqi-EU bilateral ties

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Rashid, stressed the importance of relations between Iraq and the European Union during a meeting on Sunday with the European Union Ambassador to Iraq, Ville Varjola, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi Presidency.

The statement elaborated that the meeting was held as Varjola’s duties as an ambassador in Baghdad came to an end.

Rashid highlighted the importance of the existing relations between Iraq and the European Union and the need to develop these relations in important areas, including issues related to freedoms and human rights, combating corruption, and fighting terrorism.

The Iraqi President praised Varjola’s role during his tenure in developing bilateral relations and wished him success in his upcoming diplomatic missions.

The European Union Ambassador to Iraq expressed his happiness to work in Iraq, asserting the importance of promoting relations with Iraq and supporting its security and stability.

During a meeting held last week with the Iraqi Minister of Foreign Affairs, Fuad Hussein, Varjola confirmed the European Union’s continued support for Iraq, especially in the field of reconstruction, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

The Iraqi Foreign Minister commended the qualitative progress in relations with the European Union, INA added.
