Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Rashid, called for strengthened efforts to end the issue of the Internally Displaced People (IDP), according to a press statement issued by the Iraqi Presidency.

Rashid’s statement took place during his meeting with the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Iraq in the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), Ghulam Mohammad Isaczai, and his accompanying delegation.

Rashid emphasized that efforts being made should be strengthened at every level to find viable, long-term solutions to the IDP issue, and ultimately, ensure their return to homes, the statement mentioned.

“This humanitarian issue should not be taken lightly, and tangible steps between the relevant international organizations and governmental agencies must be taken,” Rashid stated.

Rashid indicated that there is a need to complete rebuilding and reconstructing Sinjar, with a focus on the importance of rendering public services, the statement explained.

“The Iraqi Presidency stands ready to support these efforts and further coordinate with international agencies to ensure the return of the displaced people who are still living in harsh conditions,” Rashid said.

“Major infrastructure projects in Sinjar need to be completed as this plays a key role in addressing the issue of displaced people, Rashid added.

The Iraqi President asserted that he is ready to visit Sinjar again to examine the situation and to see what has been provided for the population in Sinjar.
