 Iraqi President discusses water agreement with Turkey

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi President, Abdul Latif Rashid, highlighted on Monday the need to reach an agreement with Turkey to solve the water issue.

Rashid’s remarks took place during his meeting with the head of Turkey’s National Intelligence Agency, Ibrahim Kalin, and his accompanying delegation, according to a statement issued by the Iraqi Presidency.

The Iraqi President indicated that the population in Iraq is constantly increasing and the need for water is constantly rising.

The two sides reviewed strategies to enhance the bilateral ties between Iraq and Turkey, and Rashid stressed the need to coordinate security aspects, particularly in the fight against terrorism.

The Iraqi President emphasized the need to adopt dialogue to resolve outstanding issues between Iraq and Turkey, as both countries enjoy significant natural and human resources that should be utilized to achieve comprehensive development and prosperity.

Kalin confirmed that Turkey is keen for Iraq to receive its fair share of water, indicating that joint committees are tasked with resolving this matter.
