 Iraqi, Sudanese interior ministers discuss combating terrorism

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iraqi Minister of Interior, Abdul Amir Al-Shammari, held talks on Sunday with the Sudanese Minister of Interior, Anan Hamid Mohammed Omar, on cooperation in combating terrorism, according to the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

A statement issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Interior mentioned that Al-Shammari received his Sudanese counterpart in Baghdad where they discussed several issues.

Al-Shammari and Omar talked about strengthening joint security cooperation in combating terrorism, especially in light of the great Iraqi experiences in fighting militants belonging to ISIS terrorist group, the statement revealed.

The two ministers also discussed the issue of drug control and mechanisms related to the disposal of these toxins, in addition to strengthening the military capabilities of the police forces, the statement elaborated.

The Sudanese Minister of Interior commended the capabilities of the Iraqi police in combating organized crime, the statement added.

In December 2017, Iraq announced the liberation of all its territories from the grip of the ISIS after nearly three and a half years of confrontations with the terrorist group that occupied about a third of the country, announcing the establishment of what it called the ‘Islamic Caliphate.’

However, the Iraqi security forces are still pursuing remnants of ISIS group who try to carry out terrorist operations in different areas of the country.
