Dubai (IraqiNews.com) – The premiere of Shawkat Amin Korki’s highly regarded Iraqi Kurdish film THE EXAM, which is Iraq’s official entry for the 2023 Academy Awards, will take place on December 30 at 8 p.m. at Al-Ain’s Al-Qattara Arts Center in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The film follows Rojin, a young Kurdish lady who is getting ready to take the university’s entrance exam. Shilan, her older sister who is unhappy in her marriage, would do anything to assist her in passing the exam so that she might have a shot at living independently. As a result, it is inevitable that the sisters will become caught in a vast web of corruption that permeates every aspect of society.

The seven-time international award-winning film THE EXAM, starring Avan Jamal, Vania Salar, Hussein Hassan, and Hoshyar Nerwayi, is a collaboration between the Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government, Germany, and Qatar. It is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Shawkat Amin Korki and co-written by Iranian screenwriter Mohammad Reza Gohari.

The movie took home a number of notable honors, including the UNFPA Award at the Cairo International Film Festival, the FIPRESCI Critics Award for Best Film at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, and the Best Screenplay Award from the Tirana International Film Festival.
