Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – After a pause of more than three years, the South Korean company Hanwha made the decision to restart construction on the biggest housing development in Iraq in February 2024.

The Bismayah New City project by Hanwha E&C is an unusual attempt to construct a whole city on 59 city blocks, comprising 8 municipalities, community centers, and more than 834 residential buildings with a combined total of 100,080 units—enough to accommodate over 600,000 Iraqi locals.

New Bismayah’s six-to eight-lane surface highways and 20-kilometer perimeter are both encircled by an underground tunnel. The electrical and communication networks are enclosed in the subterranean tube.

The construction of Bismayah New City project is currently taking place 10 km southeast of Baghdad, the capital of Iraq.
