 Saudi, Iranian ambassadors meet in Baghdad

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The Iranian ambassador to Iraq, Mohammad Al Sadiq, met on Wednesday with the Saudi ambassador to Iraq, Abdulaziz Al-Shammari, days after announcing the restoration of the relations between the two countries.

The Saudi ambassador sitting next to his Iranian counterpart in the Iranian embassy building in Baghdad appeared in a picture published by Russia Today.

Saudi Arabia, Iran and China announced in a joint statement earlier the resumption of the diplomatic relations between Riyadh and Tehran, with Chinese mediation, and the reopening of embassies within two months.

The Saudi Foreign Minister, Faisal bin Farhan, and the Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, are expected to meet within a month, according to their agreement during two phone calls within a few days, after announcing the restoration of the relations between the two countries.

The developments in the Saudi-Iranian relations follow seven years of severing the diplomatic relations between the two countries.
