 Taif Sami assumes her duties as new Finance Minister

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Former Finance Minister, Hiyam Nemat Mahmoud, handed over her duties on Sunday to Taif Sami, the Minister of Finance in the new Iraqi government, according to a press statement issued by the Iraqi Ministry of Finance.

Mahmoud wished Sami progress and success in her new duties as the Minister of Finance, indicating the experience and the great efficiency of Sami which qualify her to lead the ministry, and to manage the country’s financial policy with high professionalism and responsibility.

Sami expressed her appreciation to the former Finance Minister and confirmed that promoting the ministry’s work requires its employees to be united and to work as one team to serve the aspirations of all segments of the Iraqi society.

Sami obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Administration and Economics from the University of Baghdad, and was employed in the Budget Department of the Ministry of Finance in 1985.

Before assuming her new post, Sami was the Deputy Minister of Finance.

Sami recently won the U.S. Secretary of State’s International Women of Courage Award for her efforts in combating financial corruption and managing the financial budget in her country.
