The rebuilding of Iraq – new hospitals, schools and homes

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – In an effort to rebuild and revive Iraq, the Iraqi government is installing loans to assist in providing more hospitals, as well as, building 500,000 homes across the country, the Iraqi News Agency reported.

A special cabinet meeting was held on Monday discussing an agenda moving forward. Hospitals in Basra, Maysan and Anbar will be built, adding 1,000 beds spanning the cities, plus 5,000 schools, a government source said.

Other projects passed by the government include the start of easing the traffic problem and congestion in Baghdad by building bridges, tunnels and improving the highways. This new initiative will address food security, improve social welfare, and provide funds for small projects, a government source said.

Iraq has struggled for years to overcome the aftermath of war in the country. In addition to destabilizing institutions and causing suffering, Iraq’s healthcare system has suffered immensely. It has been a little over a month since Iraq’s parliament approved a new government, headed by Prime Minister Mohammed Al Sudani.
