Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraqi security sources said that a drone attack on Thursday killed at least three militia fighters backed by Iran and injured six more in eastern Baghdad.

According to eyewitnesses and police sources, a building used by the Iraqi paramilitary organization Al-Nujaba was hit by at least two missiles, according to Reuters.

The spokesperson for Al-Nujaba confirmed that three fighters, including a local commander, were killed in the attack, accusing the United States of being behind the attack.

Officials in the Iraqi police said that they are waiting for a government investigation before providing any more information on who could have carried out the strike.

The United States launched counterattacks in Iraq last month in response to a drone strike by insurgents affiliated with Iran that left one US serviceman critically injured and two others wounded.

Since the war broke out between Israel and the Palestinian movement Hamas in October, US and international coalition forces in Iraq and Syria have been attacked more than 100 times, most often by a combination of missiles and one-way attack drones.
