UAE, Qatar firms compete in bidding for $2.5bn Baghdad metro project

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – Iraq’s inaugural elevated metro to be built in the country’s capital, Baghdad, has attracted the interest of contractors and developers from the UAE and Qatar.

The $2.5 billion metro project and another project, a proposed rail route connecting central Iraq’s Najaf and Karbala, were scheduled to go up for bid on Monday.

The two projects would be made available for investment, according to Nassir Al-Assadi, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani’s transport adviser. Moreover, Al-Assadi stated that corporations from a number of nations, including Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, China, Italy, Spain, and Japan, took part in the bidding.

A timeline for the two projects’ completion may be established once the Iraqi government has chosen the companies to undertake them.
