US firm Oliver Wyman to prep economic study for Iraq’s $17bn railway project

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The US-based company Oliver Wyman, an international specialist in management consulting, was recently given a contract by Iraq to create a financial and economic analysis for the $17 billion project to build a 1,200-kilometer railway route throughout Iraq.

The Development Road project, which also entails building an adjacent highway, will connect Iraq’s Al-Faw Port in the Gulf with Europe through Turkey, according to Nasser Al-Asadi, the Transport Advisor to Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani.

Al-Asadi also mentioned that a 2,000-meter bridge will be built at the border with Turkey.

Oliver Wyman has been assigned to handle the project’s economic portion, while the Iraqi government maintains that the engineering portion has been progressing. The project will be broken up into two phases.

Al-Asadi stated that the Iraqi Transport Ministry plans to hold a tender to hire an expert consultant to supervise the development of the project’s designs.
