(IraqiNews.com) US Department of Defense (Pentagon) revealed the details of the ISIS attack on Ein al-Asad airbase west of Ramadi, asserting that no US soldiers were involved in repelling the attack and that it was limited to the Iraqi forces.

The ministry’s spokesman, Rear Adm. John Kirby said in a statement followed by IraqiNews.com “Iraqi security forces guarding the base had killed the 20-25 people led by suicide bombers who made the attack. Most, if not all, of the attackers were wearing Iraqi military uniforms.”

Kirby added that the American soldiers in charge of training the Iraqi army did not take part in repelling ISIS attack, noting that defending Ein al-Asad was limited to the Iraqi forces.

Kirby undermined the victory achieved by the militant group, saying it was the first time in the past two months for the terrorist group to make progress on ground.

For his part, Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren said that the US forces had pushed autopilot drones and Apache helicopters to help, and that was when the clashes came to an end.

Pentagon confirmed ISIS’ seizure on the town of al-Baghdadi in Anbar province western Iraq.
