Barzani names disputed areas as Kurdish areas outside Kurdistan Region

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The President of Kurdistan Region, Masoud Barzani, issued a decree to change the name of the disputed areas into “Kurdistani areas outside Kurdistan Region.”

Barzani justified this decision by saying that “This decision came to preserve Kurdish nature of these areas since some high level officials at the Iraqi Government have intentionally abandoned the term of the disputed areas which is set by the Iraqi Constitution and started using unreliable terms that neglect the article 140 of the constitution.”

“All the Ministries, official and non official departments in Kurdistan Region should abide by this decision and adopt it,” Barzani instructed.

This decision came few hours from Talabani’s call for the Federal Government and Kurdistan Regional Government to avoid escalation and violence.
