Sinjar (BasNews) A delegation of the Kurdish community from Saint Petersburg, Russia visited the Kurdistan Region President Masoud Barzani in Erbil on Tuesday.

Muraz Broyan, the head of the Kurdish United Group in Saint Petersburg briefed Barzani about the group’s goals and activities in Russia as well as the situation of Kurds in the former Soviet states.

The Kurdish delegation also shed light on the role and influence of Mustafa Barzani on the Kurds in those countries, stating that they also have hopes in Kurdistan Region’s achievements and Barzani’s leadership to gain independence.

Barzani lauded the Kurdish group for their nationalistic stances and their activities. He hoped for better relations between the Kurds in Russia and the Kurdistan Region.

He also enlightened the delegation of the bravery of Peshmerga and the endurance of the Kurdistan people during the battle against the Islamic State (IS) extremist group.

Barzani further spoke of the catastrophe that happened to the Kurdish Yezidis in Sinjar at the hands of the IS terrorists, noting that Peshmerga retaliated against the IS group and recaptured Sinjar from the militants.

The reconstruction of Sinjar remains the priority after it was liberated to help the people of the area resume their normal life and stand on their feet, Barzani added.
