President stresses need to provide appropriate support for Iraqi Armed Forces

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The President of the Republic Fuad Masoum confirmed on Wednesday the need to provide appropriate support for the armed forces in the fields of their work in the battle areas that witnessed fierce clashes with terrorist groups.

A statement by the President’s office received by IraqiNews.com “Masoum received today the commander of the Central Region of the American forces, Gen. Lloyd Austin and American Ambassador Robert Beecroft and his accompanying delegation, and discussed with them the security situation in the region in general and Iraq in particular, coordination and cooperation between the Iraqi and American forces to counter and defeat the ISIL.”

“Masoum confirmed, the need to form a higher council for defense not only of military but also includes politicians and security experts, and its mission is to re-strengthen the army and security agencies on solid and professional foundations, especially that the balance of power is now changed for the benefit of our armed forces that developed their performance now in line and the level of the challenges facing the country,” the statement confirmed.

“For his part, Gen. Austin renewed the United States support to Iraq in its response to the terrorist attacks of the IS, stressing that the United States was in the forefront in providing assistance to displaced people and send them the necessary assistance,” the statement mentioned.

“He stressed his country’s readiness to support and assist the security forces, noting that Iraq and the United States will work together in order to defeat terrorism,” according to the statement. /End/
