Samarrayi: IS’ MPs reject mechanism of nominating IHEC’s members

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Wasat Alliance within the Iraqiya Slate stressed that “The statements issued earlier by some MPs of the IS expressed their discontent towards the mechanism that was adopted in nominating the members of the Commissioners’ Board of the Independent High Electoral Commission as it depended on the majority of votes rather than reaching an agreement among the sides within the IS.”

The Head of Wasat Alliance, Ayad al-Samarrayi, clarified that “The Iraqiya Slate formed a commission involved the leaders of the blocs within the IS to select the IHEC’s members on the basis of a set of common visions shared by the IS’ blocs,” noting that “The issue of nominating the members of the IHEC has been settled by majority rather than unanimously or an agreement among the IS’ blocs.”

Samarrayi added that “Some IS MPs rejected the marginalization practiced against their provinces through depriving them from a representation in the IHEC especially because the mechanism which was adopted within the Iraqiya Slate did not take into account the geographic distribution in electing the new members of the IHEC.”

He confirmed that “The stance of the IS is clear towards the 9th seat of the Commissioners’ Board of the IHEC where the Slate believes that it is a merit for the Turkmen.”
