Recent developments assure us that the security crisis can be contained – Zebari to EU Ambassadors

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hoshyar Zebari, met Ambassadors of a number of EU countries in Baghdad.

A statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs received by Iraqi News cited “The Minister reviewed the security developments witnessed by a number of Iraqi provinces, especially the attacks carried out by terrorist groups of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria ISIS (DAASH, and the remnants of the Saddam Hussein regime, the Baath Party) and what these developments represent as serious security challenge that does not threat Iraq only but all countries in the region and the world.”

“The Minister also pointed to the efforts of the Iraqi government and forces in the fight against these groups and the attempts to restore security and control over the areas these groups controlled, adding that there are reassuring developments to contain the crisis, stressing the government’s determination not to give a chance to these terrorist groups to return or impose themselves,” the statement added.

“Minister Zebari thanked the positions of all European countries that announced their support for Iraq, saying that these positions come in a series of positions adopted by the UN Security Council, the Arab League, and the European Union, which confirm their readiness to provide support and assistance,” the statement mentioned.

“The Minister also explained the Iraqi government’s keenness on the safety and security of all diplomatic missions and their personnel and that the Foreign Ministry is ready to provide all the facilities which meet the needs of these missions,” the statement concluded.
