EU increases its financial support of Iraq to 17 million Euros

(IraqiNews.com) The European Union announced on Monday its intent to increase financial support for Iraq by 17 million Euros, referring to the difficulty of delivering aid to all displaced people because of the intensity of the fighting in the troubled areas.

The EU Commissioner for International Cooperation and Humanitarian Assistance, Kristalina Georgieva said, during a joint press conference with Foreign Minister, Hussain al-Shahristani and his Swedish counterpart Carl Bildt follows by IraqiNews.com, that “We are working to support Iraq and the delivery of support to all Iraqis,” pointing to “the increased financial support to 17 million Euros.”

Georgieva added that “our countries in the European Union have set up an air bridge to deliver materials and aid to all those in need,” pointing to “the existence of difficulties in the delivery of aid to all displaced people due to the intensity of the fighting in the troubled areas.”

Georgieva stressed the keenness of the European Union to “help the Iraqis wherever they are.”
