Tirana (IraqiNews.com) Albania announced on Thursday that it had started the delivery of weapons to Kurdish Peshmerga forces to confront the organization of the Islamic State in northern Iraq.

Sources in the Albanian Ministry said that the first shipment delivered on Sunday. The delivery of these weapons comes after a decision adopted by the Albanian government in mid-August.

The same sources pointed out, in remarks published in “Sky News Arabia”, that Tirana will hand over the Kurdish forces, before the end of this month, 10 thousand Kalashnikovs, 22 million bullets of 7.62 mm, 15 thousand hand grenades, and 32 thousand pieces of ammunition for rocket launchers of various calibers.

The American Defense Secretary, Chuck Hagel said earlier this week that 6 countries have pledged to deliver weapons to the Kurds namely: the United States, Albania, France, Canada, Croatia, Denmark, Italy and Britain.
