(IraqiNews.com) The Secretary General of NATO, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, announced on Tuesday the alliance’s readiness to intervene militarily to help Iraq if it is requested by the Iraqi government; the request for assistance of the Iraqi government will be taken into consideration, according to reports of the Daily Telegraph.

Rasmussen said that “NATO has a partnership with Iraq and if there is a demand to strengthen this partnership even more, I think that the NATO allies will look to this request in a constructive manner.”

Rasmussen added that “the international community’s responsibility to stop the advance of the so-called the Islamic state. We welcome air strikes on militants ISIL”.

It is noteworthy that the decisions of NATO on military action require the consent of all members, which means that Britain will not stand against the will of this alliance.
