Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Al-Hashd al-Shaabi forces recaptured two villages from Islamic State militants west of Mosul on Wednesday.

The militia’s media service said the forces liberated the villages of Eastern Boutha and al-Salihiya, and cleared both from booby-traps.

Earlier on Wednesday, Jawad al-Tleibawi, a senior leader at al-Hashd al-Shaabi, said the troops were preparing to invade the flashpoint village of Tal Abta, the only remaining area to consummate a siege on the town of Tal Afar. “Al-Hashd forces have opened several fronts to entirely besiege Tal Afar from all directions…the forces are preparing to storm Tal Abta to get into control over the road leading to Tal Afar and cut all supplies from the group (ISIS).” He explained that occupying Tal Abta would mean there is no outlet for supplies to the group from the Syrian town of Raqqa.

Al-Hashd recently recaptured the Tal Afar military airport, deeming the victory a major step towards the liberation of Mosul and denying ISIS supplies from, or escape to, Syria.
