‘Baghdad won’t fall’ deep defense system established around it, says US Gen. Dempsey

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) On Thursday, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey said that the United Stated will not let Baghdad fall in ISIS’s hands.

In an interview on CNN, when asked whether it is possible that ISIS take control of Baghdad, Dempsey replied “I don’t see that happening. I’m confident we can assist the Iraqis to keep Baghdad from falling.”

He also added, that the U.S. helped Iraqi forces, “establishing fairly formidable defensive perimeter around Baghdad” that Dempsey characterized as a very thick and deep defense.”
