Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Three civilians were killed on Sunday as an IED blast occurred in the western flank of Mosul City, a security source said on Sunday.

Speaking to Shafaq News, the source said “three civilians, including a woman, were killed, while seven others, including a child and two women, were wounded as a landmine, planted by Islamic State, exploded in Ras al-Jadda district, northwest of Mosul.”

On Saturday, a source was quoted saying that three civilians were killed, while seven others were wounded as a blast occurred near a house in al-Kasr village in Nimrud town, southeast of Mosul. The casualties were from one family.

Earlier this month, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi congratulated Iraqi forces and citizens on the victory over IS militants who had held the second largest Iraqi city since 2014. More than 25000 militants were killed throughout the campaign.

Violence in the country has surged further with the emergence of Islamic State Sunni extremist militants who proclaimed an “Islamic Caliphate” in Iraq and Syria in 2014.

More than 700 Iraqis were killed and wounded during the month of June as result of violence and armed conflicts, according to a monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI) which excludes security members deaths. Baghdad ranked the second place with 22 deaths and 88 injuries.
