ISIS blows up Citadel Church in central Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) On Tuesday, elements of the terrorist ISIS organization blew up the historic al-Tahra Chruch (the Citadel), located in the center of Mosul, after its historical contents were robbed, according to a local source in Nineveh province.

The source said in an interview for IraqiNews.com, “Elements of the ISIS organization detonated al-Tahra Church (the Citadel) of the Syriac Orthodox Church, located in the Shaarin market in central Mosul,” pointing out that”ISIS elements robbed the contents of the Church, including manuscripts, paintings in Syriac language and historical metal pots.”

The source, who requested anonymity, added: “There is ambiguity about the fate of the other churches and community schools in Shaarin area, including the Syrian Catholic and the Armenian Orthodox.”
