Kurdish Peshmerga forces secure 7 villages surrounding Mosul Dam

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) Peshmerga forces in Mosul, on Thursday, managed to take control over seven villages surrounding north of the city, after ISIS had gripped the Mosul Dam and seized it for about 10 days, which could have caused in catastrophic to Iraqi people, living in Mosul and the near villages.

In 1986, the Mosul Dam was completed in construction, at 50 km north from the city of Mosul by a company, which estimated for the dam to last approximately 80 years, however, suffering of erosion in the ground underneath it requires constant strengthening by concrete injection in the areas of crack.

Official Iraqi TV channel, in urgent news, on Thursday stated: “Peshmerga forces have secured seven strategic villages surrounding the Mosul Dam from the north.” and a source in the government said: “Peshmerga forces redeemed and secured the village of Mahmudiyah, in north of the Rabia province, stressing that the largest dam in Iraq and surrounding areas now under control.”
