Russia expresses readiness to carry out raids in Iraq

(IraqiNews.com) Baghdad – A senior Russian diplomat said that Russia declared its readiness for launching air strikes in Iraq if requested by Baghdad.
Ilya Rogachev, a senior official in the Russian Foreign Ministry, said in a press statement: “If we received such a request from the Iraqi government, or if there was a decision of the Security Council based on the will of the Iraqi government, Moscow would consider launching strikes in Iraq.”
For his part, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi welcomed the Russian air strikes in Iraq, but he has not discussed this topic with the Russian President.
