Turkey is willing to provide military aid to Iraq, says Turkish PM

(IraqiNews.com) On Thursday, Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu visited Baghdad for talks with Iraqi officials on bilateral relations and the situation in the region, especially threats of the organization of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi—during a joint press conference following a meeting with Davutoglu—that, the two sides discussed the ISIS danger and the file of counter-terrorism, pointing out that Baghdad is seeking to strengthen its cooperation with Ankara in the military aspects, especially that the security file and the fight against terrorism represents challenges for the two countries.

Abadi said that his Turkish counterpart expressed Ankara’s willingness to provide military aid to Baghdad, pointing that the Council of Ministers in its first meeting stressed on the need to develop relations with the neighboring countries.

Turkish Prime Minister, for his part, said, “ISIS threatens both Iraq and Turkey,” pointing out that the Iraqi government is keen on the unity of the Iraqi territory.

“Turkey supports the Iraqi government and the stability in the region” Davutoglu said, adding that his country is cooperating with Iraq to defeat the terrorist group.
