Violent clashes break out between security forces and ISIS militants northern Tikrit

(IraqiNews.com) A security source in Salahuddin province announced Wednesday, that the security forces, backed by volunteer fighters (known as al-Hashd al-Sha’bi), have launched an attack on the northern areas of Tikrit, pointing out to the outbreak of violent clashes between those troops and the elements of the ISIS organization.

The source informed IraqiNews.com, “Security forces backed by volunteer fighters launched, today, an attack from the University of Tikrit on the northern side of the city to free it from ISIS.”

The source, who requested anonymity, added, “Violent clashes erupted in the wake of the attack between ISIS elements and the security forces.”
