Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Twelve people were killed and injured as bomb blasts took place inside a birds market, west of Baghdad, a security source said on Wednesday.

Speaking to Alghad Press website, the source said “One person was killed, while 11 others were injured in two bomb blasts in al-Sho’ala region.”

According to the source, “two bombs targeted stores that sell birds.”

Earlier today, a source said two bomb blasts in al-Sho’ala city left a victim and seven injured people. This came after preliminary results showed only two people were injured.

Baghdad has recently seen significant security stability, however, some bomb blasts take place in sporadic regions across the capital every now and then.

A total of 76 people were killed and 129 others were injured due to acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflicts during the month of June, casualty figures recorded by the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI).

Diyala was the worst affected Governorate, according to the report, with 52 civilian casualties (16 killed, 36 injured), then came Kirkuk (10 killed, 36 injured) then Baghdad (19 killed and 18 injured).

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared victory over Islamic State group, previously in December, however, observers warn that the group still poses a security threat with sleeper cells.
