Nineveh (IraqiNews) An official source informed, on Saturday, that the Falcons Intelligence Cell forces killed six Islamic State militants, west of Mosul.

The source said in a press statement that the forces from the Falcons Cell killed 6 militants from the Islamic state in al-Ayadiya area, west of Mosul, and seized their weapons.

The source didn’t mentioned any further details, the statement added.

It is noteworthy that security forces in Nineveh frequently announce either killing or apprehending a number of the Islamic state militants in different areas of the province.

Islamic State insurgents took control over the city of Mosul on June 2014, after defeating the Iraqi army. An estimated 500,000 civilians fled from the city, due to the conflict.

In October 2016, Iraqi Army and al-Hashd al-Shaabi launched an offensive to liberate Mosul City from the IS control. Former Iraqi Prime Minister, Haider al-Abadi announced the liberation of the city on July 2017, after nearly nine months of urban warfare.
