Deir Ezzor (Syria News) The self-proclaimed Islamic State group carried out an extensive offensive, on Tuesday, on the Syrian army headquarters, in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor, Qasioun News reported.

The News outlet revealed that the Islamic State militants managed to enter the city of Mayadin, after launching a surprise attack on the army’s headquarters in the city, in the eastern countryside of Deir Ezzor.

Meanwhile, Jayesh Maghawer al-Thawra militia announced that the Islamic State miitia managed to capture the city of Mayadin, while the Syrian army forces started to withdraw from the city.

The Islamic State launched the attack while the Syrian army forces were advancing towards the T2 Airbase, in southern Deir Ezzor Province, 30 kilometers away from the Syrian – Iraqi borders.

It is noteworthy that Syrian army forces and their allied militias, backed by Russian Air force, managed to recapture the city of Mayadin in October 14, after fierce battles with the Islamic State group.
