15 million to vote in provincial election – IHEC

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The head of the Independent High Electoral Commission (IHEC) on Tuesday said that 15 million voters throughout Iraq, excluding Kurdistan, have been registered on the commission’s lists to vote in upcoming provincial elections. “Seventy-five percent of the political blocs that did not participate in the 2005 elections will participate in the upcoming provincial election on Jan. 31, 2009,” Faraj al-Hayderi told IraqiNews.com news agency. “There will be 14,431 candidates in the election, including 3,612 female candidates,” he added.
