45,000 displaced persons in Kurdistan to vote in election

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: More than 45,000 displaced persons in Iraq’s Kurdistan region will participate in the upcoming provincial council elections, scheduled to take place later this month. “There are an estimated 33,000 persons who have the right to vote in Duhuk province, 13,000 in Arbil, and 2,000 in Sulaimaniya,” a statement received by IraqiNews.com news agency quoted the head of the office of the Independent High Electoral Committee (IHEC) in Arbil, Handreen Mohammed, as saying. “There are 41 electoral centers in Duhuk, 24 in Arbil and 14 in Sulaimaniya,” the statement noted. The provincial council elections are due to be held on January 31 in 14 out of 18 Iraqi provinces. SS (P)/SR 1
