Abbas Kurdistan visit serves plot to divide Iraq- AMS

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The Association of Muslim Scholars (AMS) on Tuesday said that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s visit to Iraq’s Kurdistan region would serve plans to divide Iraq. “Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s surprise visit to the government of northern Iraq is an unprecedented and unjustified step and serves a project by the current authority in northern Iraq to divide the country…,” according to a statement released by the association and received by IraqiNews.com news agency. “The Palestinian Authority represents the Palestinian presidency. It is a member of the Arab League (AL), whose statements and resolutions stress the unity of Iraqi territory and people…,” the statement added. On Monday (April 13), Abbas arrived in the capital city of Iraq’s Kurdistan and met with the region’s president and prime minister. On Sunday (April 5), Abbas arrived in Iraq on a one-day official visit- the first by a Palestinian official since 2003, and met with President Jalal al-Talabani, his deputies, Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and several other officials.
