Abbawi, UNHCR delegation discuss Syrian refugees & Displaced situation

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for Political Planning, Labeed Abbawi, discussed Syrian Refugees and displaced persons’ situation with the UN High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) delegation headed by UN High Commissioner Assistant, Janet Lim.

A statement by the FM reported “Abbawi received the UNHCR delegation at the ministry’s building where the head of the delegation extended her appreciation to the size of the aids presented by the Iraqi government to the Syrian refugees, calling the government to boost the aids to accommodate the increasing number of the refugees on background of the continuity of violence in Syria.”

“She stressed the UNHCR readiness to continue the cooperation with the Iraqi government concerning the file of the Iraqis returning from Syria,” the statement added.

“For his part, Abbawi confirmed the Iraqi side’s willingness to elevate the aids forwarded to the Syrian refugees and displaced and to exert its efforts to ease the difficulties facing the Iraq returnees,”the statement concluded.
