Allaq denies increasing members of IHEC

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Parliamentary Committee formed to nominate the members of the Independent High Electoral Commission denied increasing the members of the IHEC.

The head of the Committee, Ali al-Allaq, stated to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) “The Committee did not decide to increase the members of the IHEC,” noting that “The Committee continued its meetings and tried to reach a settlement to distribute the nine seats of the IHEC according to the constituents of the Iraqi people.”

“The Committee is waiting for the parliament chairmanship and the heads of the blocs to show their stances over the results that the Committee has achieved,” he concluded.

The rapporteur of the Committee MP, Muaed al-Tayib, of the Kurdistani Alliance stated to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com) “The Committee decided to amend a special item in the law draft of the IHEC which is about increasing the candidates from nine to thirteen to make a fair balance for all the people constitutes with representation of women in two or three candidates.”
