Attempts to change election results – politician

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: The delays in approving the election results and decisions made by the Accountability and Justice Committee are attempts to change the election results to the contrary of Al-Iraqiya Alliance’s interests, Jamal al-Bateekh, a member of the alliance, said on Tuesday. “We reject all these measures,” al-Bateekh told IraqiNews.com news agency. He noted that Al-Iraqiya Alliance will discuss these issues with local powers and international organizations. “We will communicate the current situation to the United Nations (UN), European Union (EU), and Arab League (AL),” al-Bateekh explained. The Accountability and Justice Committee wants to debaathificate nine persons, who have won seats in Iraq’s new Parliament, due to alleged affiliations to the Baath party. “We have filed a petition in this regard with the Electoral Appeals Commission,” Ali al-Lami, the committee’s executive director, told IraqiNews.com news agency on Tuesday. He explained that the Electoral Appeals Commission will make its decision about them within the coming few days. “The nine persons are affiliated with the two alliances of Al-Iraqiya and Dawlat al-Qanoon,” al-Lami noted. He stressed that the Accountability and Justice Committee works according to the law and constitution. MH (S)/SR 2
