Blocs did not agree on minorities’ provincial seats – MP

BAGHDAD / IraqiNews.com: Member of the Iraqi parliament’s legal committee, Ahmed Anwar, on Sunday said that political blocs have disagreements regarding seats allocated to minorities according to the provincial elections bill. “Sunday’s meeting that embraced the legal and provincial committees of the Iraqi Parliament in addition to the minorities’ representatives came up with no specific result,” Anwar, who is a lawmaker of the Kurdistan Alliance, told IraqiNews.com. “Some blocs demanded to minimize minorities’ seats from three, as it is proposed by the United Nations’ (UN) suggestion, to one,” he said. “This demand was objected to by the Sadr bloc, Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC), and the Kurdistan Alliance,” he added. Anwar excluded that the bill would be voted on by tomorrow. MH (P)/SR 1
