Urgent – Iraq handles Turkish charge d’affaires protest memo over Davutuglu’s visit to Kurdistan Region

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Iraqi government has sent a protest memo to the Turkish government over the visit of the Turkish Foreign Minister, Ahmed Davutoglu to Kurdistan Region and Kirkuk province without notifying it.

An official statement by the Iraqi Foreign Ministry cited “The Iraqi FM called the Turkish charge d’affaires and informed him about the protest of the Iraqi government,” noting that “The memo was handled to the Turkish charge d’affaires when the Secretary of the FM, Walid Abawi, has met him.”

“The protest memo considered Davutoglu’s visit as a violation to the sovereignty of Iraq and to the diplomatic relations between the two countries,” the statement added.

“The protest memo requested an urgent explanation to what has happened and the reasons behind this violation,” the statement pointed out.

The statement concluded “The Director of the Neighboring Affairs Department within the FM has attended the meeting.”
