Urgent – Turkmen to boycott elections in Kirkuk

Breaking News ... Turkmen to boycott elections in Kirkuk

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The political office of the Turkmen Eily Party in Kirkuk province announced its intention to boycott the local elections that will be held in Kirkuk if there is not political deal among all the constituents of the province in any special law for the elections in Kirkuk.

A statement received by the office cited “Article 23 of the Elections Law of the Iraqi provinces in 2008 that is endorsed by the parliament as a replacement to Article 24 of the same law, was also endorsed by all the political sides, including the Kurds, in Kirkuk province.”

“Canceling this Article is any obstacle in holding fair and transparent elections of Kirkuk in spite of being not implemented, but some political sides reject it because it is about activating the electors’ record in the province,” the statement added.

“Endorsing a special law for the elections in Kirkuk without having a prior deal among the political sides makes the elections as a play where its results are already know,” the statement concluded.
