Britain supports Barzani’s initiative

ARBIL / IraqiNews.com: President of Iraq’s Kurdistan region, Massoud Barzani, received on Thursday a telephone call from British Foreign Secretary William Hague, who expressed Britain’s support for President Barzani’s initiative to form a government in Iraq, according to a presidential statement. Britain is the latest country to voice its support for this initiative. In addition to most Iraqi political parties and blocs, the UN, the Arab League, the US, Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia and others have all voiced their support for an initiative by President Barzani calling for a roundtable meeting of the leadership of the main political blocs to break the government formation deadlock. The British Foreign Secretary also reaffirmed his country’s commitment to developing strong ties with Iraq and the Kurdistan Region. President Barzani had recently proposed that representatives of the four main winning blocs convene a broad meeting and start serious talks about reaching common ground and breaking the current stalemate.
