Central Regime to threaten local governments, says Babel Governor

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The Governor of Babel province pointed out that “The Central Regime threatens the local governments all over the Iraqi provinces.”

Speaking to Iraqi News (IraqiNews.com), he said “The Iraqi State adopts a dangerous tendency that ruins the local governments,” noting that “The Centralism started to threaten the political and the democratic process in the country.”

“The Decentralism, which is approved by the constitution and the law No 21 of the Provincial Councils in 2008, must be reactivated to enable the local governments to perform freely in respect to the process of rebuilding the provinces,” he concluded.

The relations between the Federal Government and the local governments witness tensions over the authorities assumed by each side concerning the manipulation of the natural resources, services, job opportunities, investments and the security situation in addition to other files.
