Chalabi reveals smuggling for US dollar at CBI

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The head of the Investigating Commission for accounts of the Iraq Development Fund at the Central Bank of Iraq, Ahmed al-Chalabi, revealed operations of smuggling for the US dollar via the money orders of the Central Bank abroad.

Chalabi said in a press conference at the parliament building on Monday “The CBI’s sales of dollar in 2006-2009 reached $ 2078320000 billion which is equal to 56% of the general rate. The purchased sums are doubles to what was imported by the private sector in that period.”

“The difference between the importation and the sums transferred is a money-laundry,” he added noting “Iraq’s returns from oil sector in 2006-2009 amounted to $ 370847000000.”
