Demonstration in Karbala condemning “Saudi interference” in Bahrain

KARBALA / IraqiNews.com: Hundreds of citizens took to the streets of southwestern Iraq’s Shiite holy city of Karbala on Wednesday, condemning what they described as “the mass annihilation against the people of Bahrain,” demanding the Saudi forces to “stop their interference in Bahrain’s affairs” and calling on the Iraqi Parliament to “take a brave position against the Saudi interference.” “Hundreds of citizens in Karbala city, among them religious men, Islamic personalities and social society organization members, have demonstrated in response of the said call,” Sheikh Abdul-Hussein al-Furaty, one of the assistants of the Shiite Religious Authority, Mohammed Taqi al-Mudarrisy, who called for the demonstration told IraqiNews.com news agency. He said the “demonstrators have repeated slogans, condemning what he described as the ‘crimes,’ committed by the Bahraini regime against its people, who had demonstrated in a peaceful and civilized way, without raising arms,” pointing out that “the demonstrators have condemned the interference by the Gulf Cooperation Council in Bahrain’s affairs, under the justification of the existence of a treaty in this respect.” Mudarrisy had issued a statement on Wednesday, in which he said that “the security agreement among the Gulf states was concluded after the invasion of Kuwait, by the forces of Iraq’s former President Saddam Hussein.” “The agreement was concluded to stand against any foreign aggression; whilst the entrance of such a large number of tanks, troop carriers and 1,000 soldiers to strike a people, carrying flowers and handing them over to the Bahraini forces took place, is an issue that can’t be imagined at all,” Mudarrisy said. He warned in his statement from the “seriousness of the foreign interference in the affairs of the Bahrain people, who considered it as an occupation, thing that no state must allow itself to occupy another state, under such justifications.” “The demonstrators have demanded Saudi Arabia to withdraw its forces and stop its interference in the internal affairs of Bahrain, and the demonstrators have demanded the Iraqi government to announce a firm attitude against such ‘savage’ interferences, also calling on the Iraqi Parliament and the political officials to take a ‘brave attitude’ to force Saudi Arabia to withdraw its forces from Bahrain,” Mudarrisy concluded.   SKH (TF) 789
