Demonstration in Samarra against sacking Salah el-Din’s governor

SALAH EL-DIN / IraqiNews.com: Hundreds of citizens staged a demonstration in Samarra after the Friday prayer, protesting the decision of the Salah el-Din council to sack the governor, a police source said. “Hundreds of Samarra locals went to streets after Friday prayers to condemn the decision of the Salah el-Din Council to sack Governor Matshar Hussein Aliwi, raising banners supporting him,” the source told Iraqi News. “The demonstration lasted for one hour through the mains streets in Samarra,” he added. The council decided on Thursday (Sept. 4) to sack the governor, who asserted at a press conference that the decision is illegal. Samarra is 120 km north of Baghdad, while Tikrit, the capita of Salah el-Din, lies 175 km north of Baghdad. SH (P) 2
