Diwaniya MPs accuse local government of neglecting security duties

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Some MPs from Diwaniya Province accused Diwaniya local government of “neglecting its duties towards preserving security in the province.”

MP Mohamed al-Mashkour recited a statement, on behalf of other Diwaniya MPs, inside the Parliament building in which they said “We express our sorrow and condemnation for the recent terrorist attack that targeted our fellow citizens in Diwaniya on last Monday,” noting that “We believe that the local government did not perform its duty in the right way to preserve security in the province.”

“We have always asked the officials at the executive authorities to correct the situation in Diwaniya but the situation remained as it is, and hereby we demand the Prime Minister to interfere personally to investigate the details of the security breaches at the security departments and work to prevent interferences of some sides within the local government in the performance of the security departments,” the statement added.

A bomb exploded on last Monday in a crowded local market in Diwaniya which caused killing and injuring more than 50 persons among them security elements.
